Classical Ballet Program

The Dance Conservatory's CLASSICAL BALLET Syllabus and Methodology incorporate mainstream styles and technique, enabling students to adapt to the demands of Russian, Balanchine, and Bournonville classes and repertory.
It is important that students attend classes regularly, observe the dress codes, and are on time in order to develop and progress in their classes. Contemporary Program, AcroDance: Hair pulled away from face. Black tank/camisole leotard. Tan Tights. Jazz/Tap Shoes, Jazz Sneakers (as specified by teacher). Gymnastic shoes recommended for AcroDance.

The Levels

Beginner Program - ages 3 & up
Ballet - Pre-Ballet I and Pre-Ballet II, Level A
Jazz/Modern Tap - Dance 1, Dance 2, Tap 1

An introduction to the BASICS of Dance. Body Alignment, positions of the feet, arms, directions, basic technical and stylistic movements, simple combinations, weight transfers. Classes are structured to have a warm–up, center combinations, "across-the-floor" or diagonal combinations, repertory sections. Students taking two or more Beginner classes are charged Intermediate Program tuition.

Classes once a week, 10-12 per semester. Beginners taking more than one class per week are charged the Intermediate Program tuition.
Dress code: Pink tank leotard, skirt, pink tights, pink ballet slipper, hair pulled into a bun.

Intermediate Program
Ballet - Elementary 1, B1, B1/B2, B2
Jazz/Modern Tap - Dance 3, Dance 4, Tap 1
PLUS Program: All the above including Tap 2, Int-Adv Tap, Performance 1, Performance 2, DramaChor, AcroDance

With the Basics learned, classes move on to a more structured progression – pre-barre warm-up, barre (combinations that develop progressive strength and flexibility with the help of a fixed weight point), center and diagonal combinations, repertory (more complex combinations incorporated into a dance piece).

Unlimited classes per semester. 
Dress code:
Light blue tank leotard, skirt (Elementary 1 and B1 only), pink tights, pink ballet slippers, hair pulled into a bun.

Intermediate Program Class Schedule

Apprentice Program
Ballet - B2/B3, B3, Character Dance
Jazz/Modern –  Dance 5
PLUS Program: All the above including Performance 3, Int–Adv Tap, Musical Theatre/Tap Rep, DramaChor

Students move to progressively more difficult barre, center and diagonal combinations. Musicality, attention to detail, awareness of sudden shifts of direction are emphasized. Pre-Pointe and Pointe Work are introduced. Character Dance, derived from Eastern European folk dances, becomes necessary to add a dynamic and dramatic style to classical ballet work.

Unlimited classes per semester. A minimum of 3 ballet classes per week is required. 
Dress code: Navy blue tank leotard, pink tights, pink ballet slippers, pointe shoes (as needed), hair pulled into a bun.

Pre-Professional Program
Ballet - C1, C2, Character Dance
Jazz/Modern Tap 
PLUS Program: All the above including Repertory & Variations, Int–Adv Tap, and Musical Theatre/Tap Rep
BTD Company Program: All of Pre-Professional Program including BTD Technique, Repertory & Variations, and Pas de Deux Classes    

Combinations grow progressively more difficult at Barre and Center Work. Musicality and Stylistic Awareness are explored further together with different styles of Classical Ballet–Vaganova, Bournonville, Ceccheti and Balanchine. Numerous styles of Modern Dance, Jazz, and Theatre Dance are also introduced together with the technical and stylistic challenges of the Classical and Contemporary Dance Repertoire. Students are guided in handling choices of career or related careers in the performing arts.

Unlimited classes per semester. A minimum of 4 ballet classes per week is required. Placement at this level is by audition only.
Dress code: Black tank or camisole leotard, pink tights, pink ballet slippers, pointe shoes, hair pulled into a bun.

This program is a proven springboard towards a professional career in dance or to college dance scholarships.
