Summer Performance

2010 Summer Performance
August 4 & 5
at Schwartz Center for the Arts

The Ballet Theatre of Dover’s  summer performance will be held on Wednesday, August 4 and Thursday, August 5 at the Schwartz Center for the Arts in downtown Dover. Both performances are at 7 pm.

The Ballet Theatre of Dover will present dances from the ballet Raymonda, which is set in the Middle Ages during the time of the crusades. An abundance of Hungarian- influenced dances will be performed together with several Middle Eastern overtones and color.

Jukebox Suites features music from the 40's through the 80's. Featured music includes songs from Patti La Belle, Elvis Pressley, Jerry Lee Lewis and the Coasters among others. Take a trip down "memory lane" with the music and dances that shaped generations.

Last year's performance, La Bayadere tells the story of the  ill–fated relationship between a temple priestess, Nikiya, and the warrior, Solor. Guest artist is Oliver Beres from The Carolina Ballet Company in North Carolina. He is a native of Hungary. Another suite of dances in the performance is "Legacy'" a showcase of pieces by American composers from simple Appalachian and Quaker music to music by Scott Joplin, John Cage and John Philip Sousa.

Featuring student repertory works from classical and contemporary repertoire. Classical pieces have included Dances from Sleeping Beauty, Le Corsaire and La Bayadere. Contemporary pieces featured A Hard Day’s Night (a suite on Beatles tunes), Speedway (based on NASCAR racing) and Slaughter on 10th Avenue (from the Broadway show “On Your Toes”).
